Live a Well-Designed Life Quality of Life

Go with the Slow

Consider this a sign that you should take a moment to SLOW DOWN! The Italian & French way of life celebrates indulgences, eating slowly, time spent with loved ones around a dinner table. The importance that food and eating play in our daily lives is one that is constantly celebrated. I moved to the UK 12 years ago and at times I find myself swept up in always wanting to do more, see more, explore more, accomplish more. It’s a never-ending race.

When we first went into lockdown, there was a collective assumption that we should be using this time to better ourselves, work out more, eat better, learn a new language, remodel our homes, and on.

As we enter our sixth month of lockdowns, quarantines and curfews, those of us who approached this pandemic as a time to reinvent ourselves are probably feeling rather burnt out. You deserve a break.

Why not start with taking a deep breath, putting your phone down, and stepping outside. A moment for mindfulness truly can change our attitude to our entire day. Stop and celebrate your little victories, however small and trivial they may seem. When we stop to appreciate the unremarkable, we find happiness within ourselves, instead of from external factors that we can’t really control.

We often hear people commenting on how quickly time passes, how when you’re a child the Summer feels like a lifetime, but when you’re an adult it passes in the blink of an eye. Want to know the secret to stop time? Enjoying the little moments! Appreciate how good your dinner tastes, how fresh the air feels when you go to grab the mail, how big you smile when you’re with your favourite person. You might be surprised by just how much time you can add to your life by slowing down.
