Stop and celebrate your little victories, however small and trivial they may seem. When we go through life only celebrating the big moments, the graduations, engagements, birthdays, and new jobs, we find ourselves chasing the next big thing. Only happy for a temporary time, before we’re onto the next goal with stars in our eyes.
But life isn’t all big moments, in fact, it’s made up almost entirely of the time in-between. When we stop to appreciate the unremarkable, we find happiness within ourselves, instead of from external factors that we can’t really control.
We often hear people commenting on how quickly time passes, how when you’re a child the Summer feels like a lifetime, but when you’re an adult it passes in the blink of an eye. Want to know the secret to stop time? Enjoying the little moments! Appreciate how good your dinner tastes, how fresh the air feels when you go to grab the mail, and how big you smile when you’re with your favourite person. You might be surprised by just how much time you can add to your life by slowing down.
This is my challenge for you today:
Celebrate your efforts, not your outcomes. Remember that failure keeps you humble, success keeps you glowing, but only faith and determination keep you going. So stay focused, and celebrate your efforts, not your outcomes. Challenges are what make life interesting, overcoming them is what gives life meaning… you know, that feeling of being alive, free, connected, self-fulfilled and at peace.
The spiritual journey – the journey of total aliveness – is both an art of letting go of everything and reaching out well beyond your grasp.
Let’s overcome our fears because that’s half of the fun of embracing new experiences and adventuring. Let’s enjoy the sense of accomplishment when we realise that, when everything has passed we are still here standing.
What efforts are you celebrating today?
