For much of my life, I was consumed by the need to meet external expectations. Raised to prioritise others’ opinions, I strived to be the ‘good girl’ – pleasing, perfect, and perpetually performing at my peak. However, over the past decade, a profound shift has occurred. Now, in my third year of perimenopause, I find myself more comfortable in my own skin than ever before.

The Awakening
In March 2022, I received a diagnosis that took me by surprise: perimenopause. I had always associated this phase with women much older than myself. The onset of symptoms – hot flushes, brain fog, and mood swings – left me feeling like a stranger in my own body. A candid conversation with my aunt led me to seek medical advice, and a blood test confirmed the diagnosis. My GP, specialising in menopause, provided the guidance I needed to understand this new chapter.

Determined not to let this define me, I embarked on a journey of self-care. In January 2023, I embraced yoga and Pilates, disciplines that not only transformed my physique but also alleviated the arthritis pain in my hip. Within six months, I transitioned from a size 12 to a size 8, feeling stronger and healthier than ever.
However, life threw another curveball when we relocated to Bedford in July 2023. The upheaval disrupted my routines, and despite maintaining long walks, my health began to decline. My cholesterol levels spiked, my blood sugar edged towards diabetic levels, and the perimenopausal symptoms intensified. I barely recognised the woman staring back at me in the mirror.
A Pivotal Decision
Shortly after my 47th birthday, a moment of clarity struck: Was I going to accept this decline, or would I fight for my well-being? I chose the latter. This wasn’t about adhering to restrictive diets or punishing exercise regimes. As a passionate foodie, I sought a lifestyle that was both nourishing and soulful.
Immersing myself in research, I sought to understand the intricate changes my body was undergoing. This quest for knowledge led me to become a certified Menopause Wellness Coach, Female Health Coach, and Holistic Health Practitioner, complementing my roles as a Lifestyle Coach, Vegan & Vegetarian Nutritionist, and Master NLP Practitioner.
Through this transformative process, I developed a system that rebuilt my self-esteem and dispelled self-doubt. I began making choices aligned with my core values, driven by self-love rather than societal pressure. Joining a gym in October, I committed to 30-minute workouts three to four times a week, supplemented by daily Pilates sessions. The movement became a source of joy, free from the shackles of perfectionism.
Recent blood tests brought uplifting news: my cholesterol and blood sugar levels had returned to normal. The relief was immeasurable.
Embracing Life Unreservedly
The past year has been a tapestry of loss and growth. The passing of my youngest brother was a heart-wrenching experience, but it also catalyzed change. Recognising the importance of support, I joined a bereavement group, finding solace in shared experiences.
This period of introspection propelled me to pursue further qualifications, including a Pilates Diploma and an Ayurveda Diploma. These endeavours are not just professional milestones but personal commitments to holistic well-being.
I resolved to seize the moments I’d previously deferred:
- Helicopter Ride: Experiencing the world from new heights.
- Solo Trip to Amsterdam: Embracing independence and adventure.
- Tulip Festival: Immersing myself in natural beauty.
- Motorcycle Licence: Challenging societal norms and personal fears.
Health became a priority. Facing the reality of being on the cusp of Type 2 diabetes, I enrolled in a year-long diabetes prevention programme. Embracing body positivity, I explored body sculpting to address areas resistant to change, celebrating the progress I’d made.
Menopause supplements played a pivotal role, in restoring my sense of self within 6 weeks. This experience reinforced my dedication to guiding other women through similar transitions.
Embracing spontaneity, I’ve decided to get a belly piercing in late Spring – a symbol of reclaiming my body and desires. Signing up for a 10K Race for Life in July epitomised my commitment to health and philanthropy.
A forthcoming holiday with Khushi, in April, marks our first true getaway together, a testament to prioritising meaningful experiences.

Redefining Success
A feature in The Daily Telegraph’s Money section highlighted my journey towards simplicity, adopting ‘no-spend‘ and ‘low-spend’ years. This lifestyle shift has afforded me the freedom to focus on what truly matters: personal growth, family, and authentic living.
No longer do I measure success by external standards. Fulfilment now stems from daily practices that resonate with my true self. Life is not a race but a series of moments to be cherished.

An Invitation to Transform
For too long, I allowed external narratives to dictate my path. Today, I choose to live boldly, embracing each day with intention and joy. If my journey resonates with you, I invite you to embark on your own path of reinvention.
