Spring cleaning is usually reserved for that deep clean your home gets once a year, or perhaps that big clear out of items you don’t need and have finally found time to throw away. What you might be surprised at is that your home isn’t the only entity in your life that deserves a little TLC. Rather, the best place to focus your spring cleaning drive is on your own habits.
New Year’s resolutions often fail because you are faced with the dreariest, darkest, and coldest months of the year. In the UK, this is often accompanied by an ever-present rain cloud. It’s no wonder that so many New Year’s resolutions fail in January and February when you have to fight so hard to get out of bed in the morning.
Spring, however, is a time for renewal. It is a time for a change, and for new beginnings. Spring is the perfect time to try out those New Year’s resolutions and finally make them stick, which is why this spring save the spring cleaning for your living habits:
Understand What Goes Into a Healthy Lifestyle
The first step to spring cleaning your living habits is to understand what goes into a healthy lifestyle in the first place. Only when you know what your end goal is can you take the appropriate steps forward.
Healthy Diet
Your body can only use what you give it in order to thrive. If you feed it unhealthy foods that are hard on your digestive system you will feel worse off. The issue with switching your diet is that it can be difficult at the beginning. You will crave sugar. You will crave salts and fats and other unhealthy tastes. Over time, however, these cravings will fade and you will feel better and look better than you have before.
Good Sleeping Patterns
Good sleeping patterns need a dedicated night-time and morning routine alongside a set number of hours. Getting eight hours of sleep a night is fine, getting a deep eight hours of sleep is better.
Regular Exercise
Going to the gym every day can be a challenge, but it isn’t the only way that you can enjoy exercise. Join a dance class, bike to work, and go on walks – there are many ways to be active and have fun. Being active in this way improves heart health, makes you feel more alert, and generally improves your entire system.
De-Stress
Modern life can be stressful, which is why you need to put in steps to limit the amount of stress you feel. Make it the expectation that you do not take work after working hours, especially if you aren’t being paid overtime for it.
Fulfilment
Contentment
True happiness is impossible to maintain, which is why the true goal of a long and healthy life is to be content. When you are content your good days are more frequent and your bad days are less severe.
How to Spring Clean Your Living Habits
Now that you know what your healthy lifestyle will generally look like, it’s time to start taking the necessary steps to take you from who you are today to the best person you can be. It can be challenging to change bad habits, but by following these steps and never giving up on yourself you can do it.
Audit Your Life
Go through and get rid of the items and even people that are causing you harm. This could mean going through your pantry and getting rid of the snacks and unhealthy items as much as it could mean cutting out a toxic friend.
Stock Up On Healthy Food
Find Ways to Stay Hydrated
Drinking water is the most obvious way to stay hydrated, but it doesn’t offer much more than hydration for your body. That is why alternative drinks, like tea, can be so beneficial for the mind and body. Some tea can help you relax, other super-teas, like soursop, are great for helping you stay healthy, reduce inflammation, boost your immune system, regulate your metabolism, and more. There are so many benefits to soursop tea, and drinking it is also a great way to stay hydrated.
Be Strict With Your Routines
When building a healthy routine you need to be strict. At night go through the same steps that promote healthy skin, teeth, and hygiene. Go to bed at the same time every night. In the morning drink a large glass of water, beautify yourself, and have breakfast, and so on.
Find An Activity You Love
You need to be active. You don’t need to go to the gym. Join classes or sports to help you get your heart rate up and let you have fun while doing it.
Start a New Hobby
Starting a new hobby can be a great way to develop your skills, de-stress, and meet new people. Progressing is key to leading a fulfilling life, but you don’t need to progress in your career in order to do it.
If you fail, try again the next day. Changing your habits doesn’t just stop because you had a bad night’s sleep or couldn’t make it to the gym that one day. Good habits are built up, so keep trying again and again and even get your loved ones to join you.
Spring cleaning your living habits takes time. You likely won’t get it all right the first time you try, but use the power of spring and the warming weather to spur you to try again and again. Get your friends, family, or partner to join you as you finally make your new year’s resolutions come true and stick.
