Micro-productive things you can do on your phone (instead of mindlessly scrolling)

  • unsubscribe from emails you never read
  • get rid of unneeded photos: screenshots, duplicates, etc.
  • delete notes from your notes app that you no longer need
  • reach out to a loved one or friend you haven’t spoken to recently
  • delete apps you don’t use that are taking up memory space
  • play a game meant to sharpen your thinking or memory
  • delete old text messages you never refer back to
  • enable Night Shift to automatically dim your screen at night (so you don’t interrupt your melatonin production)
  • download Goodreads and plan which book(s) you’ll read next
  • turn off unnecessary notifications to boost your focus in the future
  • check your current app subscriptions and delete the ones you don’t need
  • set up a passwords manager to increase digital security
  • create keyboard shortcuts to save time typing in the future
  • set up the Libby app (or whichever app your library uses to check out books on your phone
  • clear out your email inbox: mark emails as read, archive, delete or spam
  • learn a new language on Duolingo or another language-learning app
  • listen to an informative podcast on Spotify
  • go through your photos and “favourite” the ones that you want to refer back to more often – let yourself relish happy or meaningful memories
  • create a new playlist for your next workout
  • OR, just take a break from your phone altogether. Enjoy being where you are.
