Iβve been obsessed with simplifying my wardrobe for over 3 years now. I used to have loads of clothes, but nothing to wear. When I think about it, I only wore (and still wear) a handful of pieces regularly. So I decided to curate a capsule wardrobe of clothing pieces that were:
- My favourite
- I would actually wear them and not just keep them because they looked pretty hanging in my wardrobe
- They were comfortable (VERY IMPORTANT)
- Natural material, sustainable & long-lasting
I think my wardrobe consists of about 30ish pieces altogether and I feel really happy with the number of clothes I own right now. I wear everything but some pieces a lot more than others. One thing hasnβt changed since I began my capsule wardrobe adventure β I never get bored of owning less but better.
What’s in my wardrobe:
- 2 dresses
- 4 t-shirts
- 1 pair of jeans
- 4 Trousers
- 1 skirt
- 5 warm jumpers
- 1 coat (Spring & Autumn
- 1 coat (Autumn & Winter)
- 1 linen blouse
- 2 pairs of trainers
- 2 jogging bottoms
… and a few more items which I can’t remember right now, but the above is about 95% of my overall wardrobe.
My capsule wardrobe has taken me years of trial and error to get to a point where I not only feel happy with the number of pieces I have but also feel like they reflect my style and suit my life. Iβve learnt so much along the way and thereβs a lot I wish Iβd known when I was first starting.
How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe that feels like ‘YOU’
- Jump on Pinterest and create a board for outfit inspiration. Spend some time saving the looks that are your vibe.
- You will see some tones and styles that keep popping up. For example, Iβm always drawn to jeans, earthy tones, knits, and white t-shirts. ( yeah Iβm a basic kind of girl) These are the items that will form the foundation of your capsule wardrobe.
- Source your items! Once youβve worked out a few key pieces that form the foundation of your wardrobe you can begin to source them. Shops and websites like TK Maxx, ASOS, and eBay are good for quality brands while keeping things circular.
- When shopping for new things, head back to your Pinterest to see if it reflects your board and if it can be mixed and matched with existing pieces. This helps you to focus and not buy on a whim or waste money on something you wonβt wear much!
I hope this helps inspire you to get the most out of your wardrobe and wear clothes that help you feel like βyouβ!
