From Becoming to Belonging

On candles, contentment, and the life that has been quietly waiting for you to notice it.

This week, I sat in a different seat. That’s it. That’s all I did. I moved from my usual chair to the main sofa, and the room looked completely different. The tea lights on the shelves. The fairy lights behind the linen curtains. The warm, soft atmosphere of an ordinary evening.

And I sat there with the biggest smile on my face. Not because the home is perfect. It isn’t. Not because everything in my life is exactly where I once imagined it would be. It isn’t. But because, for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t looking for what was missing.

I was looking at what was already here.

In this episode, I’m talking about the shift from becoming to belonging. About what it means to stop arriving and start noticing. About how I accidentally chipped a little ceramic bowl this week and immediately reached for the gold paint, and what that small instinct told me about how I now choose to see my life.

I’m also being honest about something that surprised me. I have less income than I did two or three years ago. And I don’t think I’ve ever felt so content. That’s worth sitting with.

Because we are taught, consistently and loudly, that happiness lives in more. And what if it doesn’t? What if contentment comes not from having more, but from noticing more?

This one is gentle, quiet, and true. I hope it gives you permission to pause tonight, to sit somewhere you don’t usually sit, look around at what you’ve quietly built, and ask a different question.

Not “What do I still need?” But “What can I appreciate that’s already here?”
