Some people drift through life.
Others design it.
For years, I was a drifter. From the outside, everything looked fine, good even. I ticked all the boxes, did what I was “supposed” to do, and smiled through it. But deep down, I felt like I was sleepwalking through my own life.
I wasn’t unhappy. I just wasn’t… alive.
And then one day, the thought crept in: What if there’s more?
More meaning. More joy. More of me in my own story.
That whisper became a roar I couldn’t ignore. I realised I didn’t want to reach the end of my life having lived someone else’s idea of success. I wanted to curate a life that reflected my values, energy, passions, and dreams.
Not the “neat and sensible” dreams I once settled for. But big, soul-stretching dreams that asked more of me than I thought I could give.
And it was in the pursuit of those dreams that everything began to shift.

Why Your Dreams Matter More Than You Think
Here’s the truth I’ve learnt and now live by:
The bigger your dream, the better version of yourself you become.
Because here’s what happens when you choose to dream bigger:
- You stop living life on autopilot.
- You start making conscious choices about who you are and what you want.
- You grow because your dreams demand it.
Big dreams stretch you. They require courage, creativity, and consistency. And in the process, they shape you.
They force you to become more intentional with your time, energy and relationships. They make you rethink your priorities. And they remind you that you’re still capable of surprise, especially when it comes to yourself.

My Turning Point
The moment everything changed for me wasn’t dramatic. No lightning bolt. No dramatic decision.
It was quiet and deeply personal.
I was journaling one morning, asking myself: What do I want from this next chapter of life?
I wrote:
“I want to live on purpose, not just pass through. I want to design a life I love and guide other women to do the same.”
That single page sparked what has now become Midlife by Design – my coaching work, my mission, my dream.
It hasn’t been easy. But it’s been meaningful. And that’s everything.

Big Dreams vs. Small Comforts
Here’s what I know to be true:
Dreams focused only on comfort, image, or comparison shrink us.
Dreams rooted in legacy, impact, creativity, and connection expand us.
A big dream doesn’t have to mean starting a business, writing a book, or changing the world in grand gestures. It might mean:
- Healing generational patterns
- Becoming a more present mother or grandmother
- Creating a home filled with love and joy
- Speaking up for what you believe in
- Redefining success on your terms
Whatever it is, it’s yours. And it matters.

Journaling Prompts: Connect with Your Big Dream
- What did I dream about when I was younger, and have I forgotten it?
- If nothing was holding me back, what would I create or pursue?
- What version of me would be required to live that dream?
- What am I willing to leave behind to become her?
- Whose life could be changed by me living fully into my purpose?
Case Study: Yvonne’s Bold Reawakening
Yvonne, 58, had spent decades climbing the corporate ladder. Successful, yes. Fulfilled? Not even close.
She’d always wanted to mentor young women but never “had time.” After working through her values and midlife blueprint in one of my sessions, she realised her big dream wasn’t about retirement or relocation – it was legacy.
She launched a mentoring circle for girls in her community. It lit her up. Her words:
“For the first time in years, I feel like I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. And I had to dream bigger to find this version of me.”
Actionable Steps: How to Start Dreaming Bigger Today
- Create a Dream List
Sit quietly and write down 10 things you’d do or become if there were no limits. Don’t censor or shrink – expand. - Choose One Dream That Scares and Excites You
Pick one. The one that whispers, the one you can’t stop thinking about. That’s the one. - Get Curious About Who You Need to Become
Ask: What habits, mindset, and support would I need to step into this version of me? - Take One Small Brave Step
Book the course. Make the call. Start the project. Say it out loud. Action breeds clarity and momentum. - Protect Your Dream
Tell only people who will support your vision. Big dreams need nurturing, especially in the early stages.
